§ 05 — Frequently asked

Common questions.

What should I do if I have a plumbing emergency on nights or weekends?

Call us at (207) 785-2145 and leave a message describing the problem. Our regular hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, but we make every effort to respond to true emergencies — burst pipes, no-water situations, sewage backups — outside of those hours, including holiday weekends. While you wait, shut off the main water valve to the house if you can safely reach it.

How quickly can Brookside respond to emergency calls?

Response time depends on where you are and what else we're working on, but our customers consistently tell us we show up when others can't — including evenings, weekends, and holidays. One commercial customer had us pump, diagnose, and fix a failed system in under 5 hours on the Friday before the 4th of July, with no downtime for their guests.

What is involved in a plumbing diagnosis and how much will it cost?

Diagnosis starts with a conversation — what's happening, when it started, what you've already tried. From there we inspect the affected fixtures, valves, pumps, or lines, and walk you through what we find. Pricing depends on the job; we'll always explain the work and the cost before we begin, so there are no surprises.

How can I prevent common plumbing problems in Maine homes?

Maine winters are hard on plumbing. Keep an eye on exposed pipes in basements, crawl spaces, and exterior walls — insulate them before deep cold sets in, and let faucets drip during prolonged sub-zero stretches. Have well pumps and septic tanks inspected on a regular schedule. And if you notice changes in water pressure, color, or sounds in the pipes, call early — small problems caught early are almost always cheaper than emergencies.

Do you service both residential and commercial properties?

Yes. We work on single-family homes, camps, and seasonal properties as well as restaurants, inns, and other commercial buildings throughout the midcoast. Commercial work often has tighter deadlines and zero tolerance for downtime — we plan around that.
